Welcome

Our Island Story

Dal and Solveig first arrived on Salt Spring Island by sailboat in 1980. Over the years they returned often — renting homes, building friendships, and eventually marrying here in 1993. In 2015 they made the island their permanent home, and in 2016 Collins House opened its doors.

This is not simply a business location — it is a place shaped by decades of connection.

We Know the Island

Over the years Dal and Solveig have served on numerous local boards, committees, and community initiatives, contributing to transportation planning, tourism partnerships, arts and culture, and community development. Their involvement reflects a genuine commitment to Salt Spring and a deep familiarity with its character and rhythms.

When guests ask for recommendations, they receive thoughtful, current insight — not a brochure list.

Our Style of Hosting

Collins House is designed as a quiet, private country getaway. Each Deluxe King Suite offers its own entrance, outdoor seating area, and carefully considered interior designed for rest and ease.

Following Covid-19 breakfast is no longer served, allowing guests greater flexibility and privacy. Suites are equipped for simple self-catering with quality amenities for a comfortable stay.

Once you check in, your time is your own. We remain available if needed, but never intrusive.

Resident Artist

Original artwork by Solveig is displayed throughout the suites and home. Her large-scale canvases — often inspired by birds, cityscapes, and abstract forms — reflect years of artistic involvement through studio tours, exhibitions, and gallery participation. Select works are available for purchase.

Background & Experience

Both Dal and Solveig bring extensive executive experience in communications, marketing, community affairs, and business leadership. Their professional backgrounds inform the seamless, attentive nature of the guest experience — structured, thoughtful, and quietly refined.

At Its Heart

Collins House remains what it was always intended to be: a peaceful west coast retreat. Close to town yet closer to nature, it offers privacy, comfort, and a sense of ease that allows the island experience to unfold naturally.

We look forward to welcoming you.
